Books to help toddlers and preschoolers prepare for a move

Big transitions can be tricky for little kids… especially when they don’t fully understand what’s happening yet.

Moving to a new home means new rooms, new routines, and sometimes new friends, school, or daycare. That’s a lot to wrap your mind around when you’re a toddler or preschooler.

One of our favorite ways to prepare children for change is through stories. Books can help introduce a new idea. They give kids words for their feelings and a chance to “practice” the experience before it happens in real life.

You can find our favorite books for helping toddlers and preschoolers prepare for a big move on Amazon or Bookshop.org. And as always, we encourage you to checkout your local library for these titles as well.

Books won’t erase the big feelings that can come with moving, but they do give children language and predictability… two powerful supports during change.

We hope these stories help your child feel a little more prepared and a lot more secure.
